Priyanka Chaturvedi Criticizes Shinde Faction Over MLA’s Actions

Priyanka Chaturvedi, a Member of Parliament from the Uddhav Thackeray faction of Shiv Sena, has voiced her concerns over the actions of an MLA from Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena. The MLA, Sanjay Gaikwad, allegedly assaulted a canteen worker in Mumbai, and Chaturvedi believes he will face no consequences for his actions. In an interview with NDTV, she highlighted the difference in how the law was applied in this case compared to a previous incident involving Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers. Chaturvedi emphasized that the MLA’s behavior was unacceptable, especially given his position as an elected representative. She pointed out that this is not an isolated incident, citing a previous episode where supporters of Eknath Shinde vandalized a studio after comedian Kunal Kamra made a joke about him. According to Chaturvedi, these repeated actions by Shinde’s faction demonstrate a pattern of behavior that goes unchecked. In contrast, she noted that when MNS workers were involved in an altercation with a shopkeeper over language issues, the law took its course. The workers were detained and faced legal consequences, unlike the current situation with Gaikwad. Chaturvedi argued that there is a lack of accountability for elected officials like Gaikwad, who are not held to the same standards. Chaturvedi also addressed an incident involving former Shiv Sena MP Rajan Vichare, where traders were allegedly slapped for not speaking Marathi. She clarified that the incident was not about language but rather about disrespect. She mentioned that Vichare’s constituency includes a significant north Indian population, which he appreciates. Additionally, Chaturvedi discussed the recent reunion of MNS chief Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray. The two leaders shared a stage in response to a government resolution making Hindi a compulsory third language in Maharashtra schools. Chaturvedi explained that this move sparked outrage among various groups who felt that imposing a language was not the right approach. The resolution was eventually withdrawn, leading to the Thackeray brothers’ public appearance together.
