Pune Bank Manager’s Suicide Linked to Work Stress

Tragic Incident in Pune’s Banking Sector

In a distressing incident, a senior official from a nationalized bank in Baramati, Pune district, Maharashtra, was found dead by suicide. The police reported that Shivshankar Mitra, in his late 40s, took his own life within the bank premises late Thursday night. A note discovered at the scene attributed his drastic action to overwhelming work pressure.

Details of the Incident

Mitra, who had recently resigned from his position as chief manager citing health concerns and excessive workload, was serving his notice period. On the night of the incident, after banking hours, he instructed all staff to leave, assuring them he would close the branch himself. The watchman departed around 9:30 PM. Mitra had previously requested a colleague to bring a rope, which he later used to hang himself around 10 PM. This tragic event was captured on the bank’s CCTV cameras.

Discovery and Immediate Response

When Mitra failed to return home or answer calls, his wife went to the bank around midnight. Noticing the lights were still on and receiving no response from inside, she alerted other bank staff. Upon opening the branch, they discovered Mitra hanging from the ceiling. The note left by Mitra explicitly mentioned work pressure as the reason for his decision.

Ongoing Investigation and Support

The police have registered a case and are conducting further investigations. It was noted that Mitra did not blame anyone in his note and was reportedly undergoing medical treatment at the time. Authorities are working to understand more about the circumstances leading up to this tragic event.
