The annual Amarnath Yatra has faced an unexpected halt as heavy rains have damaged the tracks leading from the Jammu, Pahalgam, and Baltal base camps. The adverse weather conditions have necessitated a temporary suspension of the pilgrimage, with repair work currently underway. Authorities are hopeful that the Yatra will resume by July 18, contingent upon improved weather conditions.
In light of the challenging circumstances, the Indian Army has stepped in to assist approximately 500 pilgrims who were stranded due to the inclement weather. The army’s prompt response highlights their commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all pilgrims affected by the disruption.
The decision to suspend the Yatra was also influenced by a tragic incident involving a landslide that resulted in the death of one pilgrim and injuries to three others. This unfortunate event underscores the potential dangers posed by natural calamities in mountainous regions, prompting authorities to prioritize safety measures.
Despite these setbacks, the Amarnath Yatra has already seen significant participation this year, with 2.5 lakh pilgrims having visited the sacred shrine. Organizers remain optimistic about resuming the pilgrimage soon, ensuring that all necessary precautions are taken to safeguard participants against further weather-related disruptions.
