On July 18, Ajmer, a city in Rajasthan, experienced severe flooding following heavy rainfall. The downpour left many areas, including the renowned Dargah of Khwaja Garib Nawaz, submerged under water. The narrow lanes surrounding the shrine turned into swift streams, posing significant risks to residents and visitors alike.
A video capturing the incident highlights the alarming conditions outside the Dargah’s Nizam Gate. In a moment of peril, a pilgrim holding a water bottle was swept away by the powerful current. Despite immediate attempts by bystanders to assist, the force of the water was overwhelming.
In a display of bravery and quick thinking, a staff member from Hashmi Hotel intervened. Without hesitation, he managed to pull the man to safety, preventing what could have been a tragic accident. This timely rescue underscores the importance of vigilance and readiness in emergency situations.
Reports indicate that various parts of Rajasthan received light to moderate rainfall over the past 24 hours, with some areas experiencing heavy to extremely heavy showers. Sangod in Kota district recorded the highest rainfall at 166 mm. Jaisalmer noted the highest temperature at 39.1 degrees Celsius, while Sirohi AWS recorded the lowest at 20.9 degrees Celsius.
The weather department has issued an alert for heavy rain in 15 districts on Saturday due to a low-pressure system over northwest Madhya Pradesh and southwestern Uttar Pradesh. This system is expected to move northwestward through eastern Rajasthan, bringing heavy rainfall to Kota, Ajmer, and Jodhpur divisions.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that rainfall activity will likely decrease from July 20 as the depression system weakens and moves out of Rajasthan.
