Ree Drummond Shares How Her Pickup Truck Strengthens Her Marriage

Ree Drummond’s Unique Marriage Secret

Ree Drummond, known as the “Pioneer Woman,” attributes the strength of her nearly three-decade-long marriage to her husband, Ladd Drummond, to their shared love for pickup truck rides. In a recent blog post, the Food Network star revealed that some of their most cherished date nights involve simply hopping into their truck and driving together. This tradition began when their five children were young, providing a rare opportunity for the couple to connect amidst their busy lives.

The Peaceful Escape of the Pickup Truck

Ree describes the pickup truck as a sanctuary where they can focus solely on each other without distractions from laptops, devices, or televisions. The soothing hum of the diesel engine serves as background music, creating an ideal environment for meaningful conversations. During these drives, they discuss various topics, often revolving around their family and life on their Oklahoma ranch.

Exploring New Destinations Together

Their drives are never monotonous, as they choose different destinations each time. Sometimes they explore county roads to check on fences or cattle; other times, they venture to nearby towns like Pawhuska or Ponca City. These trips often include a stop for a convenience store Dr. Pepper. Ladd also enjoys showing Ree new areas of their pasture or checking on livestock and fences.

Embracing Empty Nesting with Quality Time

Now empty nesters, Ree and Ladd cherish these moments even more. Married since 1996, with five adult children—Alex, Paige, Bryce, Jamar, and Todd—the couple finds that the pickup truck offers a unique space for deep conversations and connection. Despite having more time alone at home, the truck rides continue to spark engaging discussions and strengthen their bond.
