Revanth Reddy’s Call for Representation

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has called for the appointment of Bandaru Dattatreya, a prominent OBC leader from Telangana, as the next Vice President of India. Highlighting the significance of Telugu as the second-most spoken language in the country, Reddy emphasized the need for fair representation and justice for Telugu speakers. He criticized the current political scenario, pointing out that Telangana has been overlooked in national appointments.

The Case for Bandaru Dattatreya

Bandaru Dattatreya, a former Union Minister and ex-Governor, is seen by Reddy as an ideal candidate for the Vice President role. Dattatreya’s tenure as Haryana governor from 2019 to 2021 and his subsequent appointment as Himachal Pradesh governor until July 2023 underscore his extensive experience in governance. Reddy argues that appointing Dattatreya would address past injustices and acknowledge the contributions of Telugu OBC leaders.

Political Context and Criticism

Reddy expressed disappointment over the resignation of former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and criticized the BJP-led central government for its treatment of Telugu leaders. He noted that both Bandaru Dattatreya and Bandi Sanjay, another key Telugu OBC leader, were removed from significant positions, which he views as a pattern of marginalization.

Congress’s Potential Support

While advocating for Dattatreya’s candidacy, Reddy mentioned his intention to seek support from Congress leadership. Although he personally supports Dattatreya, he acknowledged that the final decision rests with Congress leaders. Reddy also voiced concerns about the current NDA government’s impact on the country’s stability, urging for its removal to ensure a more inclusive political landscape.
