Rishabh Pant continues to make headlines with his remarkable performances on the cricket field. During Day 2 of the Manchester Test against England, Pant equaled Virender Sehwag’s record for the most sixes by an Indian in Test cricket. Both players now share the top spot with 90 sixes each in the longest format of the game. Known for his aggressive batting style, Pant has consistently demonstrated his ability to clear the boundary with ease. Following closely behind is India captain Rohit Sharma with 88 sixes, while MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja have 78 and 74 sixes respectively.
In addition to his six-hitting prowess, Pant has surpassed Rohit Sharma to become India’s leading run-scorer in the World Test Championship (WTC) era. With 2731 runs from just 38 Test matches, including six centuries and sixteen fifties, Pant has established himself as a key player in India’s Test lineup. Rohit trails slightly with 2719 WTC runs.
Despite Pant’s individual brilliance, India found themselves on the backfoot at the end of Day 2. England’s aggressive “Bazball” approach saw them reach 225 for two at stumps after dismissing India for 358. Openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley led England’s charge with a rapid 166-run partnership, leaving the hosts trailing by just 133 runs in their first innings.
Adding to the drama, Pant returned to bat on Day 2 despite suffering a painful toe injury from a yorker by Chris Woakes on Day 1. His resilience was evident as he scored a crucial 54 off 75 balls, including three boundaries and two sixes. The BCCI confirmed that while Pant will not keep wickets for the remainder of the match due to his injury, he remains available to bat if needed.
Pant’s performance highlights both his individual talent and the challenges facing Team India. His ability to perform under pressure is commendable, but India’s overall position in the match underscores the need for collective team effort to counter England’s aggressive tactics.
