Samaritan’s Purse volunteers are actively providing assistance to central Texas communities devastated by recent flooding. These dedicated individuals are not only helping residents clean up the aftermath but are also offering spiritual support through their faith-driven mission. Jason Kimak, Senior Director of North American Ministries for Samaritan’s Purse, emphasized the organization’s commitment to being “the hands and feet of Jesus Christ” as they assist in cleaning up homes and yards. Volunteers from across the nation, as well as local helpers, have joined forces to support those affected by the disaster, aiming to provide both physical relief and emotional encouragement.
The volunteers’ efforts are deeply rooted in prayer, with a tradition of praying together before embarking on their tasks. In Texas, they have been tirelessly working to remove mud, clear debris, and listen to the harrowing stories of survivors. Kimak recounted an encounter with a resident who was awakened at four in the morning by rising floodwaters and the sounds of panic in the neighborhood.
Among the volunteers are Tony and Renee Slack, who have been with Samaritan’s Purse for three years. They expressed their joy in helping flood victims find relief and spiritual solace. Renee described their work as a “full mud-out,” which involves cleaning floors, removing carpets, and cutting sheetrock. Their mission is not just about disaster recovery but also about spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ and offering hope to those who feel hopeless.
On Wednesday alone, over 90 volunteers were on the ground in Texas with Samaritan’s Purse. The catastrophic flood occurred when torrential rain caused the Guadalupe River to surge nearly 30 feet within 45 minutes, resulting in over 100 fatalities and leaving many missing. As search and rescue operations continue, Samaritan’s Purse remains committed to serving affected communities with compassion and faith.
