“Sardaar Ji 3: How a Controversial Casting Boosted Its Success in Pakistan”

Sardaar Ji 3’s Unexpected Success in Pakistan

Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh’s film “Sardaar Ji 3” has become a significant success in Pakistan, despite facing controversy. The film’s journey to becoming the second biggest blockbuster in Pakistan, following “The Legend of Maula Jatt,” is a tale of unexpected turns and strategic decisions.

Controversy Surrounding Hania Aamir’s Casting

The film initially faced backlash due to the casting of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir, which was revealed months after the Pahalgam terror attack. This revelation stirred controversy, leading to the decision to skip its release in India. However, this decision inadvertently opened doors for the film in international markets, particularly in Pakistan.

Box Office Triumph in Pakistan

Released on June 27 across Nadeem Mandviwalla’s Cineplex multiplex chain, “Sardaar Ji 3” performed exceptionally well at the Pakistani box office. According to Mandviwalla, the film grossed approximately Rs 60 crore (PKR), making it the second highest-grossing film after “The Legend of Maula Jatt,” which earned Rs 124.50 crore (PKR).

Factors Contributing to Success

Mandviwalla attributes the film’s success to three main factors: Diljit Dosanjh’s popularity, Hania Aamir’s involvement, and the absence of an Indian release due to controversy. These elements combined to create a unique appeal for Pakistani audiences, resulting in widespread support and impressive box office numbers.

Diljit Dosanjh’s Popularity in Pakistan

Diljit Dosanjh’s appeal extends beyond borders, with his previous film “Jatt & Juliet 3” also performing well in Pakistan. His established fan base played a crucial role in drawing audiences to theaters for “Sardaar Ji 3.”

Strategic Release Amidst Ban on Indian Films

Despite a general ban on Indian films in Pakistan, “Sardaar Ji 3” was allowed to release due to its classification as a Punjabi international film and involvement of Pakistani co-producer Zain Wali. This strategic positioning enabled the film to bypass restrictions and achieve remarkable success.
