Sam Darnold, fresh off a career-best season with the Minnesota Vikings, is set to embark on a new chapter with the Seattle Seahawks. After throwing for an impressive 4,319 yards and 35 touchdowns last season, Darnold faces the challenge of proving himself once again. The Seahawks acquired him in free agency, and expectations are high as he joins a team eager to capitalize on his talents.
Seattle Seahawks legend Shaun Alexander is optimistic about Darnold’s potential. Alexander, who was the NFL MVP in 2005, believes that Darnold will surpass his previous achievements this season. He attributes this confidence to the Seahawks’ strategic choice of offensive coordinator and their overall team dynamics. According to Alexander, “I think he’s going to be better this year than he was last year with us.”
A key factor in Darnold’s anticipated success is his reunion with Klint Kubiak, who served as the offensive coordinator for the New Orleans Saints last season. Their previous collaboration in 2023 with the San Francisco 49ers laid a strong foundation for their current partnership. This familiarity is expected to enhance Darnold’s performance as he takes on a leading role in Seattle.
The Seahawks have revamped their offense, notably trading wide receiver DK Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers and acquiring Cooper Kupp. This move aligns with their strategy to build a dynamic receiving corps alongside Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Additionally, the backfield duo of Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet promises to bolster Seattle’s offensive capabilities.
Alexander envisions a successful season for the Seahawks, predicting an 11-6 record and a playoff berth. Despite missing the playoffs last year with a 10-7 record, Alexander believes that strategic wins and home-field advantage will propel them forward. The team faces a challenging NFC West matchup against Darnold’s former team, the San Francisco 49ers, on September 7.
Beyond football, Alexander participated in USAA’s “Salute to Service NFL Boot Camp,” engaging with military personnel through competitive drills. With personal ties to the military through his brother’s service, Alexander expressed deep appreciation for their dedication and heroism.
