The Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025 auction witnessed a significant focus on emerging talent, with notable bids for the next generation of cricketing stars. Aaryavir Sehwag, son of legendary Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag, was a standout, securing a bid of Rs 8 lakh from Central Delhi Kings. At just 18 years old, Aaryavir is already making waves as part of the Delhi under-19 cricket team and is known for his prowess as an opener, much like his father. His acquisition sparked a bidding war among several teams, ultimately won by Central Delhi Kings.
In another exciting development, Aryaveer Kohli, nephew of Indian cricket icon Virat Kohli, was picked up by South Delhi Superstarz for Rs 1 lakh. Aryaveer, a promising leg-spinner, joins the team led by Ayush Badoni, captain of the Delhi Ranji Trophy team and a star player for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The inclusion of these young talents highlights the DPL’s commitment to nurturing future cricket stars.
The auction also saw fast bowler Simarjeet Singh becoming the most expensive player, with Central Delhi Kings acquiring him for Rs 39 lakh. Following closely was mystery spinner Digvesh Singh, who was bought by South Delhi Superstarz for Rs 38 lakh. These strategic acquisitions are expected to bolster the teams’ performances in the upcoming season.
Purani Dilli 6, semi-finalists in the previous DPL edition, retained their marquee player Rishabh Pant. Despite their promising run being cut short due to rain in the semi-finals last year, the team is optimistic about their prospects in 2025. Pant expressed his enthusiasm for the league’s role in developing young talent and praised the efforts of Rohan Jaitley and the DDCA in organizing such a platform. With Pant at the helm and a strong fan base behind them, Purani Dilli 6 aims to build on their past performances and strive for greater success this season.
