Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has made serious allegations regarding vote theft in Karnataka during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He accused the Election Commission (EC) of colluding with the BJP, claiming that fraudulent activities were involved in the electoral process. These allegations have sparked a significant confrontation between the Congress MP and the EC, with the latter challenging Gandhi to provide evidence or retract his claims.
Senior opposition leader and NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar has backed Rahul Gandhi’s assertions, stating that the allegations contain factual elements that warrant a response from the Election Commission. Pawar revealed that he was offered a guaranteed victory in 160 seats for the 2024 Maharashtra assembly elections, an offer he and Gandhi chose to decline. This claim adds another layer to the ongoing political discourse surrounding electoral integrity.
The Election Commission has responded by urging Rahul Gandhi to submit a formal complaint under oath. However, Pawar criticized this demand, arguing that an MP’s word should be sufficient given their oath of office. He emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the issues raised by Gandhi to maintain trust in the parliamentary democracy system.
The BJP has strongly condemned Rahul Gandhi’s accusations, labeling them as irresponsible and insulting to voters. The party insists that such claims undermine democratic processes and are a disservice to the electorate. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis questioned Pawar’s timing in supporting Gandhi, suggesting it was influenced by recent meetings between the two leaders.
Sharad Pawar has called for transparency from the Election Commission, demanding answers to the opposition’s questions. He stressed that if their information is incorrect, it should be clarified publicly; otherwise, the truth must be revealed. Pawar announced plans for a parliamentary march to the EC to seek accountability and ensure electoral integrity.
