TasteAtlas, a renowned food and travel guide, has released its updated list of the 100 best sandwiches worldwide as of July 2025. The rankings are based on an impressive 16,551 ratings from the TasteAtlas audience, showcasing the diverse preferences of food enthusiasts globally. Shawarma, a Middle Eastern delicacy, has claimed the top spot as the world’s best sandwich. Known for its juicy and flavorful profile, shawarma is typically a wrap filled with thinly sliced meat such as lamb, turkey, chicken, or beef. The meat is slow-cooked and basted in its own juices, creating a tender and savory experience that has captivated taste buds around the world. Following closely behind shawarma is Vietnam’s Banh Mi, which has secured the second position. Vietnam’s culinary prowess is further highlighted by having three entries in the top 10 sandwiches globally. The Banh Mi is celebrated for its unique combination of flavors and textures, often featuring a crispy baguette filled with various meats and fresh vegetables. In third place is Tombik Doner from Turkiye, another testament to the popularity of Middle Eastern-inspired sandwiches. This sandwich is known for its rich flavors and satisfying ingredients. India’s Vada Pav has also made a significant impact on the global stage, ranking 26th. This spicy and flavorful street food has gained popularity beyond India’s borders, moving up from the 39th position earlier this year. Vada Pav’s rise in the rankings reflects its growing appeal among international audiences. The list also includes other notable sandwiches such as Panino col polpo from Italy, Tortas from Mexico, and Lobster Roll from the USA. Each sandwich brings its own cultural flair and culinary tradition to the table, making this list a celebration of global gastronomy.
