Siddaramaiah’s Frustration Surfaces at Mysuru Event Over Shivakumar Mention

Tensions Emerge at Mysuru Event

During a recent event in Mysuru district, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed visible frustration when prompted to mention Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar in his address. The incident occurred at the Sadhana Samavesha, an event organized to showcase the Congress government’s achievements and announce new projects. Although Mr. Shivakumar was initially present, he left for Bengaluru citing an emergency, leaving Siddaramaiah to address the gathering.

Protocol Breach Sparks Reaction

As Siddaramaiah took the podium, he omitted Mr. Shivakumar’s name while introducing dignitaries. When a Congress leader suggested including Shivakumar’s name, Siddaramaiah responded sharply, questioning the leader’s understanding of protocol. “DK Shivakumar is not here, right? Please go sit down. What kind of lawyer are you?” he retorted. He emphasized that only those present should be acknowledged, highlighting a breach of protocol by mentioning someone who had already departed.

Underlying Political Tensions

This incident reflects ongoing tensions within the Karnataka government regarding the Chief Minister position. The BJP has speculated that Mr. Shivakumar might replace Siddaramaiah, despite assurances from the Congress high command that no change is planned. While Siddaramaiah has dismissed rumors of his exit, and Shivakumar has publicly supported him, their strained relationship occasionally surfaces at public events.

Historical Context of Leadership Dispute

The unrest traces back to the 2023 election results when Congress achieved a significant victory in Karnataka. At that time, Mr. Shivakumar was seen as a strong contender for the Chief Minister role due to his contributions to the party’s success. Ultimately, he accepted the Deputy Chief Minister and state party chief positions after negotiations with Congress leadership. Although there were reports of a rotational chief ministership agreement, this was never officially confirmed.
