Amid ongoing discussions about potential leadership changes in Karnataka, Yathindra Siddaramaiah, son of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and a Congress Member of the Legislative Council, has publicly praised his father’s contributions to the Mysuru region. He asserted that the development initiatives undertaken during Siddaramaiah’s tenure as Chief Minister are comparable to, if not greater than, those implemented by Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar, a revered pre-Independence ruler known for his progressive reforms.
Yathindra Siddaramaiah highlighted that the Congress government, under his father’s leadership, has allocated significant funds for Mysuru’s development. He emphasized that these efforts rival the historical contributions of Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar, who was instrumental in advancing infrastructure and social justice in the region. Yathindra dismissed opposition claims that the government’s achievements were overstated and defended the decision to hold the ‘Sadhana Samavesha’ event in Mysuru.
The remarks by Yathindra Siddaramaiah were met with criticism from BJP leaders, including state unit president BY Vijayendra. Vijayendra accused the Congress of using the event as a political maneuver rather than a genuine celebration of achievements. He questioned the rationale behind hosting such a high-profile event in Mysuru, suggesting it was part of an internal power struggle within the Congress party.
BJP leader R Ashoka criticized Yathindra’s comparison of his father’s contributions to those of King Wodeyar. Ashoka highlighted King Wodeyar’s legacy, which includes building the Krishna Raja Sagara reservoir and promoting industrial and educational advancements. He condemned Yathindra’s remarks as disrespectful to the royal family and demanded an apology for what he perceived as an insult to King Wodeyar’s enduring legacy.
Despite political tensions, the state government announced new projects worth over Rs 2,500 crores for Mysuru district during the event. This commitment underscores the government’s focus on continuing development efforts in the region, aiming to enhance infrastructure and improve living standards for its residents.
