A small aircraft on a training mission crashed into a suburban neighborhood near Atlanta, Georgia, late Saturday night, leaving three passengers injured. The plane, which was on a routine training exercise, plummeted into the front yard of a residence in Brookhaven. The incident occurred shortly after midnight, causing a brief power outage in the area but fortunately resulted in no injuries to residents or damage to homes.
Brookhaven police officers were quick to respond to the scene, efficiently removing the three occupants from the wreckage and administering first aid. The passengers were reported to be conscious and alert when they were transported to a local trauma center. Their current conditions have not been disclosed by authorities.
The aircraft, registered to a local flight school, had departed from Peachtree-DeKalb Airport on Friday evening. It was engaged in “touch-and-go” landings, a common practice for flight training. However, during its maneuvers, the plane collided with several trees and electrical wires before crashing onto a road. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) confirmed these details and is set to investigate the crash alongside the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Despite the dramatic nature of the crash, no homes were damaged, and no one on the ground was hurt. Photos from the scene show the aircraft’s wreckage entangled in tree branches and electrical cables. The DeKalb County Fire Department and American Medical Response team also attended the scene to assist with recovery efforts. By early Saturday afternoon, all debris had been cleared from the site. The NTSB’s investigation will seek to determine the cause of this unfortunate accident.
