Sonam Raghuvanshi, accused of murdering her husband Raja Raghuvanshi during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, has completed one month in Shillong jail. Despite the gravity of her alleged crime, sources reveal that Sonam has shown no remorse for her actions. Furthermore, none of her family members have visited her since her incarceration.
According to insiders, Sonam has adjusted well to life in prison. She adheres strictly to the jail’s daily routine, waking up at the same time each morning and following the manual diligently. Although she has integrated with other female inmates, Sonam remains reticent about discussing her crime or personal life with fellow prisoners or jail staff. Her accommodation is near the jail warden’s office, where she shares space with two other women awaiting trial.
Currently, Sonam has not been assigned any specific duties within the jail. However, plans are in place for her to learn sewing and engage in skill development activities. She also has access to television daily, providing a semblance of normalcy amidst her confinement.
Despite being allowed to communicate with family members under jail regulations, Sonam has not received any visits or calls from them. This estrangement follows a statement from her brother, who declared that the family had severed ties with Sonam after the incident. He expressed support for Raja’s family and committed to aiding them in their pursuit of justice.
Sonam and Raja married on May 11 and embarked on their honeymoon to Meghalaya on May 20. Their journey took a tragic turn when Raja’s body was discovered in a gorge on June 2, transforming a missing persons case into a murder investigation. Sonam was found unconscious at a ‘dhaba’ in Ghazipur on June 7 and later surrendered to authorities. Her lover Raj and two others were also apprehended in connection with the crime.
