Sunita Ahuja’s Early Relationship Challenges
Sunita Ahuja, wife of Bollywood actor Govinda, recently shared insights into the early days of their relationship and the challenges they faced from her family. Speaking to Galatta India, Sunita recounted how her parents were unsupportive of her relationship with Govinda, especially when it began to interfere with her academic performance. She recalled a vivid memory from her school days when she was in the 8th standard and failed her class. In an attempt to hide this from her mother, Sunita lied about passing. Her mother, upon discovering the truth, reacted harshly by heating a tawa (pan) and burning Sunita’s cheek as a form of punishment. Sunita described her mother as very strict, emphasizing the pressure she felt to excel academically despite her lack of interest.
Childhood Incidents and Academic Struggles
Sunita also shared another incident from her childhood involving her older sister. She recounted how she once cut her sister’s thigh with a blade out of frustration when forced to study. Despite her general dislike for academics, Sunita admitted to having an affinity for mathematics due to her love for money.
Marriage and Family Opposition
Sunita and Govinda married in 1987, initially keeping their union a secret for a year until after the birth of their daughter, Tina. Sunita revealed that her father was strongly opposed to their relationship and did not attend their wedding. She married Govinda at 18 and became a mother at 19, describing herself as still a child during these significant life events.
Contrasting Backgrounds
In the same interview, Tina Ahuja highlighted the stark contrast between her parents’ backgrounds. Sunita came from a wealthy family in Pali Hill and was accustomed to a certain lifestyle, while Govinda hailed from Virar and was financially struggling at the time. Tina recounted how her maternal grandfather disapproved of the marriage due to Govinda’s aspiring actor status and did not attend the wedding.
