Actor Tanushree Dutta, a prominent figure in India’s #MeToo movement, has come forward with serious allegations of being stalked and harassed over several years. In a recent emotional Instagram video, she expressed her distress, claiming that these incidents have severely impacted her health. Despite seeking help from authorities, she feels abandoned by the system designed to protect her.
In an exclusive interview with NDTV, Dutta detailed the relentless harassment she has faced both publicly and privately. She recounted her experience with the Mumbai Police during the 2018 #MeToo movement, where she was encouraged to file an FIR but saw no results. Her disillusionment with the justice system stems from her belief that perpetrators are often shielded by political connections in Maharashtra.
Dutta described how her ordeal extends beyond her home. During travels for spiritual solace, she experienced intimidation at hotels, suspecting staff complicity. She reported incidents of tampered food deliveries and meddled packages, which she believes are deliberate attempts to destabilize her mentally and physically. These experiences have contributed to her diagnosis of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, exacerbated by prolonged stress.
The actor shared alarming accounts of unauthorized entries into her hotel rooms across multiple cities. Personal belongings were subtly disturbed, reinforcing her sense of insecurity even in supposedly private spaces. This pattern has now reached her Mumbai residence, where she faces disturbances at odd hours and unresponsive building management.
Despite reporting these incidents to authorities, Dutta remains skeptical about achieving justice. Her past allegations against veteran actor Nana Patekar were pivotal in igniting the #MeToo movement in Bollywood, yet she continues to battle for accountability and safety. Her recent revelations highlight the ongoing challenges faced by survivors seeking justice.
