A 15-year-old girl was injured when a pickup truck allegedly ran over her legs while she was sunbathing on a beach in Oak Island, North Carolina. The incident occurred on Monday just after 2 p.m., prompting a swift response from Oak Island Public Safety officials. Upon arrival, authorities found the teenager and assessed her for possible non-life-threatening injuries. As a precaution, she was transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.
The vehicle involved in the accident was identified as a 2020 GMC pickup truck belonging to TI Coastal Services. This private contractor was conducting beach survey work for Moffatt & Nichol, an engineering firm preparing for the upcoming 2025/26 Beach Nourishment Project. The survey, which began on July 7, was scheduled to last two weeks and included both land and sea surveying activities.
In the wake of the incident, Oak Island city officials addressed and dispelled false reports circulating on social media that implicated the town’s Beach Safety Unit in the accident. The city emphasized that such misinformation could undermine public trust in first responders and urged individuals to verify information sources before sharing or forming opinions.
The beach survey project is part of a larger initiative aimed at enhancing the coastal environment through nourishment efforts. Scheduled to take place between June 30 and July 7, the project involves comprehensive surveying to ensure effective planning and execution.
Fox News Digital reached out to TI Coastal Services for comments regarding the incident. However, no statement has been released by the company at this time.
