The fourth day of the third Test match at Lord’s saw heightened tensions as the Indian cricket team faced boos from the crowd. The incident unfolded when England captain Ben Stokes taunted Indian batsman KL Rahul with a sarcastic clap, reminiscent of a similar gesture by India captain Shubman Gill towards Zak Crawley on Day 3. The crowd’s reaction was triggered when Akash Deep called for the physio to tape up his right leg, an act perceived as time-wasting, echoing Crawley’s call for the England physio the previous day. Despite the disruption, Stokes had the last laugh by clean bowling Akash Deep with a remarkable delivery on the final ball of the day.
Chasing a target of 193 runs, India ended Day 4 at 58 for four in their second innings. KL Rahul remained unbeaten on 33, while night-watchman Akash Deep was dismissed by Stokes. India’s top order struggled, losing Yashasvi Jaiswal (0), Karun Nair (14), and Shubman Gill (6) cheaply, leaving them trailing by 135 runs as they head into the final day.
Earlier in the day, England were bowled out for 192 in their second innings over 62.1 overs. Washington Sundar shone with four wickets for 22 runs, supported by Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah, who took two wickets each. Akash Deep also contributed with one wicket. England resumed their innings at 175 for six but lost their last four wickets for just 17 runs. Washington dismissed Stokes shortly after tea and claimed the final wicket of Shoaib Bashir. Bumrah took crucial wickets of Chris Woakes and Brydon Carse.
As both teams prepare for the final day, India faces an uphill battle to reach their target, while England aims to capitalize on their strong position.
