Texas Man Arrested for Alleged Threats Against Trump on Social Media

Texas Man Faces Charges for Threatening President Trump

A Texas resident, Robert Herrera, aged 52, from San Antonio, was apprehended by federal authorities following allegations of making violent threats against President Donald Trump. The arrest occurred on Thursday after Herrera allegedly posted threatening messages on Facebook concerning Trump’s planned visit to Kerrville. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas announced that Herrera faces charges of making threats against the president and interstate threatening communications.

Details of the Alleged Threats

The alleged threats were made on a Facebook page of a local news outlet discussing Trump’s upcoming visit to the Hill Country, which was scheduled after severe Fourth of July flooding. Although the specific news outlet has not been publicly identified by law enforcement, the Department of Justice reported that Herrera used the alias “Robert Herrer” to post a menacing comment. He allegedly wrote “I won’t miss” under a photo depicting Trump with Secret Service agents, referencing a previous assassination attempt in Pennsylvania in July 2024.

Response and Arrest

In response to another user’s comment stating, “you won’t get the chance, I promise,” Herrera allegedly replied with “I’ll just come for you,” accompanied by a photo of himself holding what appeared to be a rifle and loaded magazines. These posts have since been removed, and federal agents swiftly arrested Herrera later that day. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison for each charge.

Federal Authorities’ Statement

Special Agent in Charge Aaron Tapp from the FBI’s San Antonio Field Office emphasized the importance of distinguishing between free speech and threats of violence. He stated that while free speech is protected, threatening violence is a federal crime. Tapp expressed gratitude towards various law enforcement agencies for their collaboration in addressing this threat.

Secret Service’s Role and Ongoing Investigation

Brian J. Gibson, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Secret Service San Antonio Field Office, highlighted the priority given to investigating threats against individuals under Secret Service protection. He commended the cooperation between different law enforcement bodies and noted that the investigation remains ongoing.

Context of Trump’s Visit to Kerrville

President Trump and the first lady visited Kerrville on Friday to assess flood damage and meet with first responders. During his visit, Trump assured that the federal government would provide necessary relief to Texas. This arrest follows nearly a year after an attempted assassination at a Pennsylvania rally where Trump was targeted by a rooftop gunman.
