Tom Homan Criticizes Lawmakers Over ‘Alligator Alcatraz’ Detention Center Debate

Tom Homan Defends ‘Alligator Alcatraz’ Amid Criticism

Tom Homan, a prominent border czar, has publicly criticized lawmakers for their vocal opposition to the conditions at “Alligator Alcatraz,” a new detention center located in the Florida Everglades. The facility, named for its location in alligator-populated swamplands, has faced scrutiny over its remote setting and potential environmental impact. Critics have raised concerns about the safety and humaneness of the center, questioning its suitability for long-term detention.

Homan Highlights ICE Standards

In defense of the facility, Homan emphasized that “Alligator Alcatraz” adheres to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) guidelines, which he claims are among the highest standards in the industry. During an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Homan urged critics to review ICE’s detention standards available on their official website. He argued that despite detainee complaints, the facility maintains compliance with established regulations.

Lawmakers’ Silence on Migrant Deaths Under Biden

Homan accused lawmakers of remaining silent during a surge in migrant deaths under President Joe Biden’s administration. According to data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, 856 migrants died attempting to cross the southern border in fiscal year 2022, marking a record high at that time. Homan pointed out that these same lawmakers did not voice concerns when migrants were held in harsh conditions at border patrol facilities.

Child Trafficking Concerns

The border czar also highlighted the issue of child trafficking, claiming that half a million children were trafficked into the U.S. during Biden’s presidency. He criticized the lack of attention given to this crisis and noted that President Donald Trump’s administration has been actively working to locate these children.

Call for Stronger Border Security

Homan concluded by stressing the importance of robust border security for national safety. He accused lawmakers of being complicit in the crises due to their silence and failure to advocate for stronger measures. Homan’s remarks underscore ongoing debates about immigration policy and border management in the United States.
