Sneha Debnath, a 19-year-old student from Sabroom, South Tripura, has reportedly gone missing in New Delhi, prompting swift intervention from Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha. The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) has issued immediate instructions to the police to take appropriate action in response to the alarming situation.
Sneha, a student at Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College, Delhi University, last contacted her family on July 7. She informed her mother of plans to accompany a friend, Pitunia, to Sarai Rohilla Railway Station. Her final phone call was made at 5:56 am. Concerns grew when her phone was found switched off by 8:45 am, and it was later confirmed that she did not meet Pitunia as planned.
The disappearance has led to an intensified search operation by the Delhi Police and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). A cab driver confirmed dropping Sneha near Delhi’s Signature Bridge, an area with known safety concerns and limited CCTV coverage. This lack of surveillance footage has hindered investigators in tracing Sneha’s movements. On July 9, the Delhi Police Crime Branch and NDRF conducted a thorough search within a seven-kilometre radius of the Signature Bridge area but found no concrete leads. The absence of personal belongings and no recent bank withdrawals have added to the family’s distress.
Authorities have issued a public appeal for information regarding Sneha’s whereabouts. The case remains under active investigation as efforts continue to locate her. Family members are deeply concerned and urge anyone with relevant information to come forward.
