The Trump administration is intensifying its efforts against sanctuary cities, accusing them of shielding undocumented migrants with criminal records. Border czar Tom Homan appeared on “The Faulkner Focus” to announce that these cities are now “on notice.” Homan emphasized the administration’s commitment to fulfilling its promises, stating, “Promises made, promises kept.” Attorney General Pam Bondi also criticized sanctuary cities, with the Justice Department releasing a list of jurisdictions it claims are obstructing federal immigration enforcement.
The list includes major cities such as New York, Boston, and Chicago, as well as states like California, Colorado, and Minnesota. These areas are noted for their predominantly left-leaning policies. Homan expressed gratitude for Bondi’s swift action, reinforcing the administration’s stance. The Justice Department evaluated these areas based on their laws and local ordinances, alleging that some measures impede federal immigration enforcement.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem echoed concerns about the lack of cooperation in sanctuary cities during her appearance on “Fox & Friends.” She highlighted the difficulties faced by officers operating without local law enforcement support. Democratic city leaders continue to resist cooperation with ICE, with Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu voicing opposition. Wu’s criticism of ICE agents drew comparisons to neo-Nazi groups, prompting a response from Homeland Security.
A group of 12 Democratic members of Congress is suing the Trump administration over restricted access to federal immigration detention centers. Despite criticism that ICE targets non-criminal migrants, Homan maintains that most arrests involve criminal aliens. In July, Homeland Security disclosed crimes committed by migrants in custody, including predatory sexual assault and meth trafficking. The administration plans to continue legal actions against sanctuary cities opposing ICE’s agenda.
