The relationship between US President Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted sex offender, has come under renewed scrutiny following a report by The Wall Street Journal. The report highlights an alleged letter from Trump included in a “birthday album” prepared by Ghislaine Maxwell for Epstein’s 50th birthday in 2003. The letter, reportedly featuring a hand-drawn sketch of a naked woman, has raised questions about Trump’s past associations with Epstein.
According to the WSJ, the letter attributed to Trump contained typewritten text framed by the outline of a naked woman. The drawing allegedly depicted a pair of breasts with a “Donald” signature on an intimate area. The letter concluded with the phrase, “Happy Birthday – and may every day be another wonderful secret.” The text inside the outline was an imaginary conversation between Trump and Epstein, written in the third person, discussing their shared enigmas and friendship.
In response to the WSJ report, Trump vehemently denied any involvement with the letter or drawing. He labeled the story as fake and threatened legal action against The Wall Street Journal, NewsCorp, and Rupert Murdoch. Trump asserted that he had never drawn pictures of women and claimed the language used was not his own. He also criticized the media for relying on unreliable sources.
The birthday album reportedly contained poems, photos, and greetings from various individuals, including businesspeople, academics, and Epstein’s former acquaintances. Notable contributors mentioned in the WSJ report include billionaire Leslie Wexner and attorney Alan Dershowitz. The album was part of documents reviewed by the US Justice Department during investigations into Epstein and Maxwell.
During the 1990s and early 2000s, Trump and Epstein were frequently seen together at social events. Their association included appearances at Mar-a-Lago and on flight logs for Epstein’s private jet. However, both men claimed to have had a falling out before Epstein’s arrest in 2006. Trump stated that he had not spoken to Epstein for about 15 years prior to his arrest in 2019.
In recent years, Trump has distanced himself from Epstein, asserting that he was not a fan of the disgraced financier. A spokeswoman for Trump informed WSJ that he had banned Epstein from Mar-a-Lago at some point in the past.
