Trump Calls for Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan’s Resignation Over Alleged China Ties

Trump’s Demand for Immediate Resignation

In a recent post on Truth Social, US President Donald Trump has called for the immediate resignation of Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan. Trump’s demand stems from what he describes as conflicts of interest due to Tan’s alleged ties to China. Trump emphasized that the only solution to this issue is Tan’s resignation, urging immediate action.

Senator Cotton’s Concerns

This development follows Arkansas Republican Senator Tom Cotton’s inquiries into Tan’s connections with China. As chairman of the Select Committee on Intelligence, Cotton questioned Intel’s board about Tan’s investments in Chinese semiconductor companies and his links to the military. Cotton expressed concerns about Intel’s ability to responsibly manage American taxpayer dollars and adhere to security regulations, given these associations.

Cadence Design Systems Controversy

Further complicating matters, Cotton highlighted Tan’s previous leadership role at Cadence Design Systems Inc., which had pleaded guilty in July to violating US export controls by selling technology to China’s National University of Defence Technology. This past incident raises additional questions about Tan’s suitability as Intel’s CEO.

Intel’s Response and Market Impact

Despite these allegations, Intel has defended Tan, stating that both the company and its CEO are committed to US national security and maintaining integrity within the defense ecosystem. However, following Trump’s call for resignation, Intel’s stock experienced a 5% drop in pre-market trading on Thursday.

Tan’s Recent Appointment

Lip-Bu Tan assumed the role of Intel CEO earlier this year, making these allegations particularly significant as they challenge his leadership at a critical time for the company.
