President Donald Trump commenced his week by meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington. This marked Netanyahu’s third visit during Trump’s second term, highlighting the ongoing diplomatic efforts between the two nations. The discussions were centered around securing a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, with Trump expressing optimism about reaching an agreement soon. “I will tell you we’re getting very close to a deal,” Trump stated, emphasizing the importance of achieving peace and returning hostages.
The week concluded with President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump visiting Kerrville, Texas, following catastrophic floods that claimed over 120 lives. The Guadalupe River’s rapid surge caused widespread devastation in Central Texas, leaving more than 160 people missing in Kerr County. During a roundtable with local officials and first responders, Trump expressed his shock at the scale of the disaster, stating, “I’ve never seen anything like this. This is a bad one.”
Among those who perished were at least 27 campers and counselors from Camp Mystic, a Christian summer camp for girls. President Trump paid tribute to the victims, acknowledging their faith and expressing comfort in the belief that they are now in a better place. “They were there because they loved God,” he remarked.
President Trump assured Texans of federal support, stating that his administration is doing everything possible to assist in recovery efforts. “We’re filled with grief and devastation,” he said, acknowledging the national impact of the tragedy.
Earlier in the week, Trump held a Cabinet meeting where he discussed plans to visit Texas and addressed other pressing issues. He commented on SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s proposal for a new political party, expressing confidence that it would not pose a significant challenge.
Trump also shared insights from a recent conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, expressing frustration over the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Despite cordial interactions, Trump noted that Putin’s assurances often proved meaningless.
