President Donald Trump is poised to sign an executive order establishing a White House task force dedicated to the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. This initiative aims to address security and logistical challenges, ensuring the smooth execution of the Games. The task force will comprise members from Trump’s cabinet and various government agencies, as confirmed by an administration official to Reuters.
One of the primary goals of this task force is to streamline coordination between federal, state, and local governments, particularly focusing on transportation logistics. Additionally, the task force will work on expediting visa processing and credentialing for foreign athletes, coaches, officials, and media personnel. This effort is part of a broader strategy to facilitate international participation and ensure a seamless experience for all involved.
During his first term, President Trump played a crucial role in securing the United States’ bid to host the 2028 Summer Olympics. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt emphasized Trump’s commitment to overseeing this global event in his second term, highlighting it as a significant honor.
Casey Wasserman, chair and president of LA28, expressed support for the task force, describing it as a vital step in planning efforts. Wasserman underscored the shared commitment to delivering an exceptional Olympic experience in 2028. He is expected to join President Trump at the White House for the signing ceremony.
Before the 2028 Olympics, the United States will host the FIFA World Cup in 2026, with Canada and Mexico as auxiliary hosts. The U.S. will serve as the main host country, with 11 out of 16 cities hosting matches. The final will take place at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The security protocols established for the World Cup are anticipated to inform preparations for the Olympics.
Los Angeles has previously hosted two Olympic Games, in 1932 and 1984. The upcoming LA28 Opening Ceremony is scheduled for July 14, 2028, with competitions running through July 30. The LA28 Paralympic Games will follow from August 15 to August 27, 2028.
