Umar Ansari, the son of the deceased gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, was apprehended on Sunday. He faces allegations of submitting falsified documents in a court attempt to reclaim his late father’s confiscated properties. The arrest was made by the Ghazipur police, who acted on information that Umar had used fake papers purportedly signed by his mother, Afshan Ansari, to facilitate the recovery of these assets.
The properties in question were seized under the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters Act. This legislation allows for the confiscation of assets belonging to individuals involved in organized crime. Mukhtar Ansari, who passed away from cardiac arrest in March at a hospital in Banda, Uttar Pradesh, had his properties seized as part of this legal framework.
The police statement revealed that Umar Ansari’s actions were aimed at securing illegal gains through fraudulent means. The documents submitted reportedly contained forged signatures of Afshan Ansari, who is currently evading arrest and has a bounty of Rs 50,000 on her head. A case has been registered against Umar at the Mohammadabad police station, with charges under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Following Umar’s arrest in Lucknow, authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation into the matter. The case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to clamp down on illegal activities associated with organized crime figures and their families. The outcome of this investigation could have significant implications for similar cases involving asset recovery through fraudulent means.
