Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Rondale Moore suffered a significant knee injury during his first preseason play, marking a devastating setback after missing the entire 2024 season due to a similar issue. Moore, who was participating in the Vikings’ 20-10 victory over the Houston Texans, entered the game as a punt returner. Unfortunately, his return was cut short when he was tackled by Texans linebacker Jamal Hill as he ran out of bounds. The incident necessitated the use of an athletic cart to transport Moore off the field, highlighting the severity of the injury.
Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell expressed profound empathy for Moore’s situation, describing it as one of the most challenging aspects of his role. “It’s one of the most painful things for me as a head coach when I feel that emotion,” O’Connell shared via ESPN. He emphasized his commitment to supporting Moore through this difficult time, despite feeling helpless in altering the outcome.
Moore’s career has been plagued by injuries, limiting his playtime significantly. In 2022, while with the Arizona Cardinals, he battled a hamstring issue and only appeared in eight games. After signing with the Atlanta Falcons in 2024, he faced another season-ending knee injury during training camp. His recent signing with the Vikings in March was seen as a fresh start, but this latest injury may sideline him for yet another season.
The Vikings are currently evaluating their wide receiver lineup, aiming to establish a strong No. 2 receiver behind star player Justin Jefferson. With Jordan Addison facing a suspension at the start of the year, competition among receivers is fierce. During the preseason game, fifteen different players were targeted as quarterbacks Sam Howell, Max Brosmer, J.J. McCarthy, and Brett Rypien took turns on the field.
