CBFC Mandates Edits for War 2

War 2, featuring prominent actors Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, and Kiara Advani, is slated for release on August 14, 2025. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has mandated several edits to the film prior to its theatrical debut. These changes include both audio and visual modifications aimed at ensuring the film’s compliance with certification standards.

Audio and Visual Adjustments

According to Bollywood Hungama, the filmmakers were required to mute “inappropriate references” in six instances within the audio and visual segments. Additionally, an “obscene” dialogue was substituted with an approved line, and a character’s “obscene” gesture was removed entirely. These alterations were necessary to align the film with CBFC guidelines.

Reduction of Sensual Content

The CBFC also instructed the reduction of sensual imagery by 50 percent, equating to a 9-second cut in duration. This specifically affected Kiara Advani’s bikini scenes in the song “Aavan Jaavan.” Notably, the action sequences remained untouched by these edits.

Final Certification and Runtime Adjustments

Following these modifications, War 2 was granted a U/A 16+ rating on August 6, 2025. The censor certificate indicates a runtime of 179.49 minutes (2 hours, 59 minutes, and 49 seconds). Subsequently, on August 8, the filmmakers voluntarily reduced the film’s length to 171.44 minutes (2 hours, 51 minutes, and 44 seconds).

Revising Committee’s Role in Certification

An industry insider revealed that it was the CBFC’s Revising Committee (RC), rather than the Examining Committee (EC), that cleared War 2. The source suggested that extensive changes requested by the EC might have prompted the filmmakers to seek approval from the RC. The Presiding Officer of the RC, Padma Shri Ramesh Patange, is known for approving films that face challenges with the EC.
