In a letter reportedly sent to Jeffrey Epstein, Woody Allen allegedly described the financier’s Manhattan townhouse as reminiscent of “Castle Dracula.” The undated note, which was allegedly given to Epstein for his birthday in 2016, was obtained by the New York Times. Allen, known for his work on “Annie Hall,” praised Epstein for his ability to gather a diverse group of “interesting people” at his dinner parties, which Allen claimed he frequently attended with his wife, Soon-Yi.
Allen allegedly wrote about the frequent invitations he and Soon-Yi received to dine at Epstein’s seven-story, 21,000-square-foot residence in New York City. He described the gatherings as always interesting, with a wide array of guests including politicians, scientists, and entertainers. The meals were noted for their sumptuousness and variety, often served by young women, which Allen compared to the scene in “Castle Dracula” with its female vampires.
Allen recounted a particular dinner where he and Soon-Yi dined among accomplished individuals from various fields. Initially, the meals were sparse, prompting Soon-Yi to tactfully suggest improvements. Over time, the dining experience evolved to include more substantial offerings like Chinese food from a local restaurant. Despite these changes, Allen noted that the presence of technology at the table detracted from the homey atmosphere.
The letter sheds light on the social circles surrounding Epstein before his arrest on federal charges for sex trafficking minors. Epstein’s death in 2019 and subsequent legal proceedings against his accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell have kept public interest alive. Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year sentence and her legal team continues to challenge aspects of her case. The ongoing scrutiny of Epstein’s connections highlights the complexities of his social network and its implications.
