New York City Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani recently celebrated his marriage with a grand three-day event in Uganda. The exclusive celebration took place at his family’s private compound near Kampala, the capital of Uganda. The event featured masked military security and a cellphone jamming system, ensuring privacy for the strictly invite-only gathering. According to a report by the New York Post, the party was held in a wealthy area known as Buziga Hill, where Mamdani’s family resides.
The wedding celebration was marked by high security, with more than 20 special forces command unit guards stationed outside the Mamdani residence. Witnesses reported that some guards wore masks, and a phone-jamming system was implemented to maintain privacy. The event was attended by close family and friends, with transportation provided by buses, several Mercedes, and a Range Rover.
The timing of the celebration coincided with the mourning period for former Ugandan Supreme Court Judge George Kanyeihamba, who was a neighbor to the Mamdani family. This led some locals to view the festivities as insensitive. Additionally, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni’s caravan briefly blocked off the street as he visited the neighborhood to pay his respects.
Born in Uganda, Zohran Mamdani moved to New York at the age of seven and became a U.S. citizen seven years ago. He recently surprised many by winning New York City’s Democratic mayoral primary. Despite his victory, Mamdani has yet to gain full support from the Democratic establishment due to his socialist platform.
