Motorists traveling between Sharjah and Dubai are advised to plan ahead as the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Sharjah has announced a temporary closure of a key exit connecting the two emirates. The King Faisal Street exit leading to Al Wahda Street toward Dubai will remain closed from October 3 to October 11, 2025. The closure is part of an ongoing infrastructure enhancement project designed to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion on one of the busiest commuter routes in the UAE.
According to Sharjah’s RTA, the closure is necessary to facilitate essential roadworks aimed at upgrading the King Faisal Street exit. The project includes resurfacing, lane adjustments, and signal optimization to ensure smoother traffic movement once completed. Authorities emphasized that this short-term inconvenience will lead to long-term benefits for daily commuters who frequently use this corridor between Sharjah and Dubai.
The temporary shutdown will last for eight days, beginning on October 3 and ending on October 11, 2025. During this period, all vehicles heading from King Faisal Street toward Al Wahda Street in the direction of Dubai will need to follow designated alternative routes. Maintenance crews will be working around the clock to complete construction within the announced timeframe, minimizing disruption as much as possible.
To ease travel during the closure period, drivers are encouraged to use other available exits and connecting roads. The RTA has advised motorists to follow directional signs placed along major intersections guiding them toward alternative paths leading into Dubai. Commuters can also rely on navigation apps or real-time traffic updates provided by local authorities to avoid delays during peak hours.
Sharjah’s RTA has coordinated with local police and municipal departments to ensure smooth traffic management throughout the closure period. Additional personnel will be deployed at key junctions to assist drivers and maintain safety standards near construction zones. Warning signs, barriers, and lighting have been installed around work areas to alert motorists well in advance of diversions or lane changes.
The King Faisal Street exit is one of the most heavily used routes linking Sharjah’s city center with Dubai’s main highways. The improvement project forms part of a broader initiative by Sharjah authorities to enhance road capacity, reduce bottlenecks, and support sustainable urban mobility across the emirate. Once completed, these upgrades are expected to significantly cut travel time between Sharjah and Dubai during rush hours.
The temporary closure may cause short-term inconvenience for daily commuters; however, officials urge patience as these enhancements are essential for long-term efficiency and safety on one of the UAE’s busiest inter-emirate corridors. Motorists are advised to stay informed through official RTA channels for any further updates or changes in schedule related to this project.
